Hustler Acquires Robertson Manufacturing. Watch the Video

Hustler Equipment is pleased to announce the acquisition of Robertson Manufacturing, a company founded by Don Robertson in 1977 in Hinds, Canterbury, New Zealand.

Robertson is well established and widely recognised as the market leaders in larger feed out equipment for high end users and syndicates, for feeding any type of supplementary feed to livestock.  This brings

an excellent combination to Hustler’s journey where Hustler has been the favourite choice of more farmers than any other brand of bale feeding equipment in New Zealand and Australia for many years.

We decided to interview a local Farm Manager Max Hall of Awanui Station who has owned a Super Comby for 13 years now.  We ask Max what he has to say about the merge into one solid reputable brand.

Awanui Station also happens to have pioneered growing fodder beet in New Zealand as a supplementary feed for their cattle back in 1998, having imported their own seed from Denmark to grow the crop. They trialled many ways of feeding fodder beet including strip grazing, picking by hand for storage until they found the ultimate machine… the Super Comby.

Awanui Station is no stranger at trialling different types of supplementary feeds, and being close to Heinz Watties offers many benefits.

The list of feeds they’ve put through their Super Comby is amazing:

  • Hay, Balage, Straw
  • Vegetable waste
  • Pumpkins
  • Apple pulp
  • Maize silage
  • Corn waste
  • Fodder beet
  • Carrot pulp

They even used it as a silage shuttle for loading their silage pits, and some 13 years later it’s still being used everyday for 6-7 months of the year, sometimes longer when it’s “a real dry Hawkes Bay” with very little to maintain, it’s fair to say that the owners have lost count how many times it has paid for itself on Awanui Station.

“build it once, build it right” and “I would rather explain the price than apologise for the quality”

This is a real testiment to Don, his great team and his philosophies “build it once, build it right” and “I would rather explain the price than apologise for the quality”. This rings true to the core values at Hustler Equipment and will continue well into the future.

Awanui has an enviable line of equipment, and is totally self-sufficient with every bit of kit a farm would ever need, from excavators and trucks to a full suite of baling and silage gear, a full suite of cropping and harvesting equipment, and probably the widest range of feeding equipment we’ve ever seen. So when it comes to machinery recommendation Max Hall is one great guy to take advice from, with a lot of experience operating, maintaining and training staff on.

The full range will continue to be produced in the Hinds based factory, to the same quality standard, by the same people, who’s understanding of the product over many years is well respected in the market.

The Comby PR Series with Fodder beet chopping attachment recently launched is a real winner.

Bale feeders

The world’s best bale feeders for farmers who rely on bales as their supplementary feed.

Hustler feeders are a favourite on more farms than any other brand, they feed any type of bale, a versatility that’s never been equalled.

Comby feeders

The only feeders that literally feed anything. For larger scale farmers who rely on a combination of silage, bales, root crops and a variety of supplementary feeds. Farmers that want one feeder that fulfils all their feeding needs.

Comby’s have often been copied, however no other company has cracked the code that Comby pioneer Don Robertson cracked – developing a feeding system that literally feeds anything.

Silage wagons

The toughest on the market, a simple feeding system for large farmers who solely rely on silage as their supplementary feed.
