Air-Assisted boom spraying reduces application costs by 70%
This week we delivered another Air-Assisted Boom sprayer, this time to a fruit tree nursery. No other boom spraying method is as effective as an Air-Assisted Boom for getting complete penetration, and application coverage into dense or high-value crops. Take a look at these comparison tests between a standard boom and an air-assisted boom.
When researching a new sprayer, be careful of advice stating that a conventional boom at high pressure is just as effective as an Air-Assisted boom, especially if you’re growing vegetables or dense foliage crops such as tomatoes, potatoes, squash, lettuces, soybeans or other similar crops. Here’s a real, side-by-side comparison, we’ll let you decide.
An Air-assisted boom can cut your input costs by
up to 70% compared to a conventional boom.
Take a look at this 1500 litre, 18m Air-assisted boom sprayer owned by a Nelson based fruit tree nursery, set up with a 1200 litre capacity fully integrated front tank, bringing in the total capacity of 2700 litres, fully recirculating and mixing as just one tank, making for easy filling calculations.
Comparison between conventional and air assisted spraying
Goodyear Farm was using a conventional 14-metre boom, with the following application rate:
- Application rate: 467 L/ha
- Pressure: 120 PSI
- Nozzle type: TeeJet AI 1003-VS
- Tractor speed: 5 km/h
Air assisted spraying:
They used the Air-Assisted 18-meter boom, with the following application rate:
- Application rate: 170 L/ha
- Nozzles types: AVI 110-025 at 60 PSI
- Tractor speed: 7 – 8 km/h
The fungicide used was systemic and it is recommended 50 – 70 droplets per square centimeter. Before they were washing down the plants and wasting too much chemicals, polluting the environment.
Following are some pictures illustrating the coverage difference between “convention and air assisted spraying”.
Front tank kits are the quickest and lowest cost option for boosting your spraying productivity.
Available in a range of sizes and integration options to suit your spraying needs.
